Applied Geology

The department of Applied Geology of the Martin-Luther-University covers the fields of Hydrogeology, Environmental and Engineering Geology as well as Applied Geophysics. Process-oriented issues are the main focus of the department. In regards to sustainable resource management, current projects are located in the center of the mentioned fields.

Groundwater management, groundwater protection, modeling of water- and deposit resources

  • Groundwater flow and mass transport modeling in the saturated zone
  • Rock deformation and its modeling
  • GIS-based valuation methods for groundwater protection
  • Origin and development of large-scale groundwater resources
  • Concepts for sustainable resource extraction (near-surface resources and groundwater)

To work on these topics, tools for modeling, lab and field are available in the department.
